Helping women and girls get into sport

Gippsland East Nationals MP, Tim Bull, is urging local sports clubs to apply for a share of $400,000 worth of funding under the VicHealth Active Club Grant program.

“Grants of up to $10,000 are currently available to clubs looking to increase the participation of women and girls in sport or to provide more opportunities for people from disadvantaged communities to take part in sport and physical activity,” Mr Bull said.

“Participation in sport has many benefits – it contributes to physical health and development, instils teamwork, teaches discipline, helps build character, strengthens perseverance and boosts self-esteem.

“One of the best ways we can address some of the social problems we experience is to get people, especially young people, involved in sporting activities, sports clubs and good role models,” he said.

Applications close 4pm on Friday, March 2. For more information or to lodge an application, visit www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/activeclub or call 9667 9028.
